Long Term Substitute
When my internship was complete, I had the opportunity to become a substitute for a 4th grade classroom at Red Cedar Elementary. When I was a substitute I had the opportunity to do extensive work in data collection to improve students learning. I worked on building a classroom community, and helped students transition from fourth grade to fifth grade. I created a blog and worked with students on google docs for technology. I also adapted curriculum, and differentiated instruction for ELL students. For reading I implemented the Daily 5 reading program. To improve our learning community, I used a variety of behavior management strategies. This experience gave me a chance to really understand the hard work of a teacher. A final experience that was truly the most helpful was the writing of report cards. I feel like I gained an experience not many other student teachers were able to experience.
